Specialist Finish
Parquet Flooring
A parquet floor is only as good as the ground beneath it and the line it starts from. We prepare the subfloor, set out the pattern from the room's axis and lay, finish and restore parquet to the millimetre.
Patterns
- Herringbone
- Chevron
- Versailles and other panelled patterns
- Basket weave and brick bond
- Wide-board and plank floors where parquet is not wanted
Solid or engineered
Solid oak blocks can be sanded many times over their life. Engineered parquet has a hardwood top layer on a stable core, which moves less and is generally the better choice over underfloor heating, always within the manufacturer's limits. We advise on each room, then let the timber acclimatise before laying.
How we lay it
- 01 Subfloor: levelled, dry and sound; moisture is checked before anything is laid.
- 02 Set-out: the pattern is centred on the room's main axis and its view from the door.
- 03 Laying: blocks are bonded, with borders and thresholds cut to fit.
- 04 Finishing: sanding, then oil or lacquer in the agreed colour and sheen.
Questions
- Can you restore an existing parquet floor?
- Yes. Loose or missing blocks are re-fixed or replaced to match, then the floor is sanded and refinished.
- Can parquet go over underfloor heating?
- Often, using engineered parquet suited to it and following the manufacturer's temperature limits. We confirm on survey.
- Oil or lacquer?
- Oil gives a natural, matt look and can be spot-repaired. Lacquer is harder-wearing on the surface. We sample both on your chosen timber.
